The book my friends would love to burn
This is a book that changed my life. Not many books can say that. My friends and family also consider it has a lot to answer for.

When a reader approaches a historical novel he does so frequently with some knowledge about the subject. In this case, the subject was Britain's youngest Prime Minister, Pitt the Younger; and the reader, yours truly, knew very little of the subject apart from, of course, what all good little Brits like me learn in school (something vague about youth, the French Revolution, and the fact that Pitt the Elder was a DIFFERENT person). I thought that was all there was to know (or care) about.

Boy, was I surprised.

In fact I was so surprised that I wanted to read more. And when a historical novel does something like that to a reader, then the primary goal of the novelist must have been attained. Some historical novels simper. This one roared. The good ones reach out to the reader. This one positively grabbed and didn't let go, either. The portrait of Pitt was so sympat

Very entertaining for kids of all ages

Philip II (European History in Perspective)
Published in Paperback by Palgrave Macmillan (August, 2001)
Author: Patrick Williams
Average review score:

Don't bother to read the review, just buy the book !!
For anyone with an interest in Philip II of Spain or the convulsive times Europe was going through in his age, this is an absolute must. The author's mastery of the subject is obvious and his writing is never heavy or boring. The book is superb, simple, clear, discretly erudite. Mr. Williams writes to please and interest the reader, not to impress the world with his knowledge. His book should be compulsory reading for French historians, most of whom are pompous bores.

The definition of Friendship
If you are having trouble understanding the meaning of friendship, you should read this book. When I first saw this book I thought,"Is a book this small worth reading?"But as the old saying goes,Don't judge a book by it's cover.Besides having some beautiful pop-up pictures, this book has some really interesting poems. For example, this poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson:"It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them."When I read this poem, memories of A.A.U summer basketball came flooding into my head.I remember on one occasion, about three of my friends and I had just finished enhaling about two Big Macs each.Since we were in a mall that had carousels,we decided to ride one. Now at the time we didn't realize how stupid that idea was going to be later. We all climbed onto our multi-colored horses and begin our journey into the world of sickness. After spinning around in circles about 20 times,we decided to get off.As soon as we got off,one by one we raced to the nearest bathroom and unloaded our lunches into the toilets.Afterwards, we all agreed that riding a carousel after lunch wasn't the greatest of ideas,BUT...at least we had fun.

Princess Chamomile's Garden
Published in Hardcover by Dutton Books (May, 1900)
Authors: Hiawyn Oram, Susan Varley, and Sam Williams
Average review score:

The Princess Grows a Garden
Princess Chamomile may be a princess but she doesn't mind getting dirty! Princess Chamomile and Milchoir (the gardener) plant a garden designed by the Princess. It takes a long time to create the garden - but it is worth the wait. This book is great for readers from 7 years and up and is a great book for all people interested in gardens and princesses! My favorite part of the story is when Princess Chamomile admits that she didn't play the piano well because she was day-dreaming. Knowing that someone else feels that way may let kids understand that a little whimsey instead of perfection is perfectly okay. It is also a good story to teach patience - and that good things take a while to come true. The illustrations are perky and fit the charm of the story. This is a delightful book and a good way to get students back into the swing of reading for this school year.
